Things have been busy lately, or I'd have posted these first two pictures earlier. It's also high time I wished our Uncle Tom a very happy 60th birthday.

Overdue Pictures and a Very Special Birthday
August 13, 2008
The first picture comes from our visit to Two Lights State Park shortly after my return from the Far East. Karrie packed us up a picnic in a special picnic backpack we were given (that we finally got around to using) and we made an evening of it. Using our camera’s panorama assist feature for the first time, I captured this shot.
In the second picture I finally captured on of the deer that likes to visit our back yard here at our home. I didn’t dare go outside, so I snapped this photo from the bedroom window at full zoom; this image is a 1:1 crop (the image was not resized) of the original, hence the slightly inferior quality.
And finally, earlier this weekend we celebrated Tom’s 60th birthday with a surprise party at DiMillo’s Floating Restaurant in Portland. Tom was truly surprised — if not a bit overwhelmed — and happy to see all of his friends and family. Much of Karrie’s side of the family were present for the event, and the food was quite good. Well, the lobster I had was good; I skipped the Caesar salad due to some anchovies present in the dressing (on purpose) and the lobster bisque was a bit gamey. It made me realize I do not like anything but freshly cooked lobster in the shell (I thought the bad taste of some lobster ravioli I had once was an exception).
