iPhone Activation

July 11, 2008

Activating the iPhone through iTunes proved to be an exercise in extreme patience as every other person who bought one today has also been trying to activate. As such, this tip should prove quite valuable.

Create a new iTunes shortcut on your desktop and add ” /StoreActivationMode 1” (without the quotes) to the Target field (after the “C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe” [with the quotes]) and use that shortcut to launch iTunes.  Assuming you have iTunes 7.7, this will launch iTunes in a special store activation mode.  It worked great for me; the only inconvenience was having to close and re-open iTunes with a regular shortcut so that I could do non-activation things (like syncing) with my iPhone.  So if you got an iPhone today or you experience the iTunes store request problem when you do, this should solve it (as with everything, use at your own risk!).
