Windows 7 Release Candidate Arrives

Windows 7 is Microsoft's latest iteration of its Windows operating systems and so far it has gotten very high marks from reviewers. Want to give it a try?

After the major suckage that was Vista (an operating system that many of us passed on), Windows 7 looks to be a welcome relief.  I beta tested it a while back and it was enough to get me excited.  I haven’t upgraded my OS since I built my computer back in 2002 and wasn’t planning on it until I built the new one.  Windows 7 may very well change that plan (as I won’t likely be building the new system until many other projects around the house are done AND my several hundred shares of my company’s stock become worth something).

Today Microsoft released a public preview of the operating system in the form of a release candidate.  In not too many words, that means that this is pretty close to the OS that should ship later this year.  Unlike a beta version, this one shouldn’t (careful!) harm your system.  If you have an extra computer floating around that you don’t use or you don’t mind the minimal risk involved with trying this software on your primary computer (back up, back up, back up your data, people), then you might want to give Windows 7 a try.  Here’s the link if you’re interested:

Be advised: there may be high demand for this, so you may not be able to download it right away.  Worry not, however; the download is available until June 30th.
