Final Night on the Other Side of the World

Tonight marks my last night in East Asia; tomorrow we will leave work early to have our last dinner here and then begin the 32+ hour journey home.

Despite the lack of weblog entries this past week (or perhaps resulting in said lack of posts), I have had a great time in Malaysia.  Check out the pictures of Steve and I with an iguana on our shoulders that we had taken while touring Melaka on Sunday.  The late night eating and drinking on Sunday—while Hell on Monday—was actually a lot of fun.  I got to play pool for the first time in quite a while, and the live music was good.  Tuesday was a day of rest, and on Wednesday myself and a few of the others returned to one of the hotels that contributed to our late night on Sunday for a second round of some good time.  The bar (or lounge, or pub, or restaurant, or whatever it was) was relatively empty, but the waitresses insisted it would pick up around 10 PM and had good humor when given a hard time about being wrong.  By 11 PM I had had enough and left with one other while the remaining two stayed behind.  Upon getting outside we were told by the concierge that the cabs had stopped running at 10:30; we had to walk.

It was about 30 minutes back to our hotel on foot, and after that I settled in for a not-bad-but-not-great six and a half hours of sleep.  Today (Wednesday) wasn’t as rough as Monday, and after work the local managing director took us out for a seafood dinner.  It was quite delicious.  I don’t have any pictures to show for it, but I had both black pepper and sweet-and-sour crab as well as some fried Calamari and Prawns.  A few of the guys headed out to the bars again tonight, but I decided to get a head start on both my packing and the regimen of sleep I’ll need for the trip.  I hope you’ve all enjoyed the posts and the pictures, and I look forward to coming home and seeing everyone again.  Until then…
