China Induces A Change in Policy

So an official part of my food intake policy for the last few years has been "I don't eat at McDonald's". Today, the Suzhou employees brought us out to a local McDonald's, so I changed that part of the policy to "I don't eat at McDonald's while in America".

Don’t get me wrong; I’ve had little problem with the food here so far, but a gross combination of the allure of true Western food (not some close approximation) and not wanting to be rude made me adjust my position a bit.  McDonald’s here is just like I remember back home: tasty at the time of ingestion, but I can’t say, “I’m glad I ate that” afterwards.  You know, it’s that weird “What the hell did you put in me” feeling your body puts off during digestion.  Hopefully my innards don’t rebel (they’d better not, considering how well they’ve handling everything else I’ve thrown at them over the past few days).

After finishing work at the plant and performing the subsequent debrief back at the hotel, we headed to a restaurant that Steve was made aware of called Jackaroo’s.  Everone ordered steak except me, who ordered a grilled ham and cheese sandwich (my wife will attest to my unusual love for a grilled ham and cheese sandwich).  When the plates came out, though, they all had steak on them.  I ate it anyway and it was quite good (it was my plan to have steak the next time we visited Jackaroo’s—which I think will be often considering its menu—so I’ll just have the grilled ham and cheese then instead).  I’m once again too short on free time to post anything of significance, as we are leaving even earlier tomorrow.  In the meantime, enjoy the new pictures from McDonald’s.
